  • Slow going on the internet

    I have just signed up with a new host so I have quite a bit of work ahead and my internet connection is on a go slow again. It often slows down between 6 and 9pm, it's something I'm learning to work around (begrudgingly).

    If I could just give in to external forces and carry on with something else, like a dog with a bone, I refuse to give up, trying repeatedly to get a page to load.

    Sometimes you just have to go with the flow, I just never seem to know when those times are.

  • Twittering

    I've recently discovered twitter.com and it's quite addictive.

    I keep finding things to do other than work... time to switch this off and drag myself away. The things I have to do aren't as appealing as the things I want to do. They never were. I just have to change my perspective.

    Time to stop thinking about it and actually start doing it.

    Okay I'm really going. After I've checked my emails and twitter.

  • A kitten walked into my life today.

    I have two cats and I said they were to be my last cats. They still have a good few years left in them (hopefully) and I love them dearly but I said I wouldn't have any more.

    Then today in the icy weather a kitten came out of my shed and starting running around in the garden. She is maybe 7 weeks old and way too young to be out on her own. I took her indoors and fed her, and she raced around some more like a crazy thing. I'd forgotten how lively kittens can be it's ten years since my Danny was a kitten.

    I phoned the RSPCA to see if anyone had reported her missing, they hadn't. They took my number and said if anyone called they'd give them my details so they can get in touch. They said to keep her indoors, which I would have done anyway.

    Now I'm starting to think what if no-one calls, do I keep her? It could be difficult my grown up girl Stole doesn't take to other cats very well. She tolerates Danny because he's such a wuss. But Molly is so lovely (I've already named her - bad sign). It's going to be a tricky keeping them segregated tonight.

  • Awaken The Giant Within

    I have decided to take it easy today and give my back a chance to get better. I'm going to arrange my pillows so that I can sit in comfort and read.

    I started reading Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins yesterday, and I decided that today would be a great day to read some more. It's all about taking control of your life and I'm practising decision making. Easy decisions are a doddle, I'm working up to the big ones.

  • Emotional Freedom Technique - Does it work?

    Today my back is painful so I went in search of relief and I thought I’d give EFT a try.

    I downloaded the Emotional Freedom Techniques manual from http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanualv8.asp

    It looks like the technique that Paul McKenna used to help people to slim down. At first glance it seems similar to acupuncture but without the needles and involves tapping various points on the face, hands and body.

    In a nutshell:

    Stage 1. Setup
    You repeat an affirmation 3 times...
    ie: Even though I have this _____________,I deeply and completely accept myself. (The blank could be something like craving for alcohol, fear of spiders, etc)
    ...while you...

    Simultaneously rub a "Sore Spot"....or....tap on the "Karate Chop" point. See picture – these are fully described in the manual.

    EFT Sore SpotKarate Chop Point

    Stage 2. The sequence
    EB = Beginning of the EyeBrow
    SE = Side of the Eye
    UE = Under the Eye
    UN = Under the Nose
    Ch = Chin
    CB = Beginning of the CollarBone
    UA = Under the Arm
    BN = Below the Nipple
    Th = Thumb
    IF = Index Finger
    MF = Middle Finger
    BF = Baby Finger
    KC = Karate Chop

    Tap about 7 times on each of the tapping points. See the manual for full details about tapping points.
    EFT Sequence

    Stage 3. The Gamut Procedure
    First locate Gamut Point It is on the back of either hand and is 1/2 inch behind the midpoint between the knuckles at the base of the ring finger and the little finger.
    EFT Gamut Point

    Next, you must perform 9 different actions while tapping the Gamut point continuously.
    The 9 Gamut actions are:
    1. Eyes closed.
    2. Eyes open.
    3. Eyes hard down right while holding the head
    steady.
    4. Eyes hard down left while holding the head
    steady.
    5. Roll eyes in a circle as though your nose was at
    the center of a clock and you were trying to see
    all the numbers in order.
    6. Same as #5 only reverse the direction in which
    you roll your eyes.
    7. Hum 2 seconds of a song (suggest Happy
    Birthday).
    8. Count rapidly from 1 to 5.
    9. Hum 2 seconds of a song again.

    Stage 4. The Sequence (again)
    Repeat the Stage 2 sequence.

  • Not Stitching

    I set aside some time to sew today and managed to do about 4 hours worth before I decided to check my emails.

    I have been sewing a giant cross-stitch embroidery of a horse and rider for a friend of the family for about 18 months. She is sadly seriously ill and I hoped to have it finished by Christmas, but it still has quite a way to go.

    My 10th February resolution is to sew, sew, sew, starting from tomorrow. It's been nagging at me for such a long time and I won't be free until it's finished!

    I should finish one thing before I start another and I could have started the blog later but it has been on my mind to get it started for a while. And I am never really happy unless I'm trying to do several things at the same time.

  • First ever blog.

    I finally got around to starting my first ever blog, this is a strange country.

    I guess I will use this blog to collect interesting information about weird and wonderful stuff and about the changes in http://www.8th-heaven.co.uk/ my "new age" shop.

    I have been tweaking the shop over the last couple of weeks and changed the header to match my home page's animated picture, based from Gustave Doré's illustrations to the Divine Comedy, Paradiso Canto 31, (Dante and Beatrice gaze upon the highest Heaven (The Empyrean)). I love this image and spent an age animating it last year and now the angels from it are incorporated into 8th-heaven's header.
